However, if your AC unit regularly leaks refrigerant or just water, this persistent problem can cause your system to underperform and lead to replacement.

  1. Strange sounds—Is your air conditioner louder and noisier than it used to be? Chattering, squeaking, or grinding sounds are never normal and could be indicators that something is going on with your air conditioner.
  2. Lack of/limited airflow—If your AC unit is having problems, limited or lack of airflow are the most obvious signs your system could be failing. In some cases, a lack of airflow can be traced to clogs in your ductwork or piping or another issue.
  3. High energy bills—If your energy bills keeping going higher, your AC system may be working too hard to keep your home cool. By upgrading to new equipment, you can improve your system’s efficiency and reduce your energy bills.
  4. Unpleasant smells—Just like strange sounds mean there’s probably something wrong with your AC unit, so do unpleasant smells. If working properly, your AC should only emit neutral, clean-smelling air.
