A Comparative Guide to AC Units

Here at Energy Sharks, we know just about everything there is to know about air conditioning, and that includes the finer points of various AC units. Choosing the right AC unit is important for keeping your home cool and comfortable during the hotter months, and our team wants to help you make the right decision for your needs. As part of that goal, we have put together this brief guide to the different types of AC units.

  • Central – Central air conditioning uses both an indoor and an outdoor unit to provide cooling. The outdoor unit contains the condenser and compressor, while the indoor unit contains the evaporator coils and air handler. Central AC uses a network of ducts to circulate the cooled air throughout the home or building.
  • Mini-Split – Like central air conditioning, mini-split AC units plate their condensers and compressors outdoors, and pair them with indoor units containing the other components. These units generally mount to the wall and are used to cool single rooms or small areas. For those that lack wall space, floor units are also available.
  • Window – Window AC units contain all of the necessary components inside a single casing, and they are generally used to cool single rooms. Window air conditioners have the advantages of being cheap to install and easy to maintain, but they also tend to be noisy during operation, which can be a real drawback.

Our team hopes that this information has been helpful. If you’d like further advice on which AC units are right for you, just give us a call.
